TYPES AND SIZES OF KITES                                                                                

The first kites used in Tarifa for kitesurfing had two lines and later four lines were introduced and then five lines.  The most recent developments have brought new designs on to the market that are called bow kites, like hybrids.

These new kite designs are a little flatter, have a greater de-power capability wich means when loosening the bar to which the kite is connected it is easier to brake its power.
Because of this, the new models of kite are safer for begginners, these kites also called bow-kites, due to their design enjoy a usage rate that is higher than for conventional models, and it is used for learning kitesurfing.
For example if with a c-kite you can navigate within a wind margin between 15 and 20 knots, with a bow-kite of similar size you can navigate with winds of 12 knots, but this can go as high as 26 or 28 knots due mainly to its capacity to handle excessive power.

The kite size that are usually used go from a surface area of 5 or 7 square meters for strong winds, and go as high as 18 or 20 square meters in weak conditions. The length of lines usually used reach between 20 and 30 meters. 

The weight of the person must also be taken into account. The heavier the person the bigger the kite required, as the kite has to develop a greater power to pull this heavier weight.

PRICES OF KITES

The prices of a kite are epending on the brand and the model you choose. The prices of a medium size and brand are normally between 700 and 1000 Euros.
